Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Injures Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County deputies are probing a shooting incident that unfolded late Saturday at Howe Community Park at the time deputies were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.

Prior to the Shooting

Law enforcement initially responded to Howe Park just after 6:30 Saturday evening after getting calls of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Shortly after, additional information came in mentioning a possible physical fight unfolding near the park.

An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Regardless, authorities discovered that a massive group had gathered without authorization without any permit or approval.

When the Shots Rang Out

Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and announcing over their public address systems ordering the assembled crowd to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were given for people to comply.

It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Responding personnel wasted no time in searching for victims.

Four People Shot

Ultimately, four individuals were located with gunshot injuries. Medical personnel reported that two victims were in serious condition, one had moderate injuries, and one person's injuries were considered minor. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location late into the evening.

Detainees in Solano County

Information relayed over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia was intercepted in Solano County California. Four individuals were held for questioning. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for processing in Sacramento County. Video that was reviewed made clear that there were two gunmen.
